A pro‑Biafra movement has announced a “sit‑at‑home” directive affecting several southeastern states on Monday, February 2, 2026. The move is aimed at supporting traders impacted by recent government actions in Anambra State.

The group said the shutdown is a peaceful protest in response to the temporary closure of the Onitsha Main Market by the state government. Authorities have maintained that past sit‑at‑home actions have disrupted business and the local economy.

In its statement, the organisation urged residents across Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo to stay home, keep schools and banks closed, and refrain from work on the scheduled date. It described the measure as voluntary and a gesture of solidarity with affected market traders.

The group also reiterated long-standing demands linked to the detention of its leader and criticised what it described as punitive threats against traders who observe the sit‑at‑home directive. Meanwhile, the Anambra State government has warned against actions that could disrupt economic activities.
