The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured that the Nigerian military will continue to play a key role in restoring lasting peace to Benue State. He emphasized the armed forces’ commitment to addressing the security challenges facing the region and protecting local communities.

General Oluyede made the remarks during a meeting with the Benue State governor in Abuja, stressing that collaboration between the military, state authorities, and community leaders is vital for improving security. He noted that previous joint efforts have already led to a reduction in violence in certain areas.

He outlined plans to enhance coordination between the Defence Headquarters and Benue’s government, including better communication channels and joint strategic planning. According to the CDS, sustainable peace will require ongoing engagement with communities alongside military interventions.

In addition, General Oluyede highlighted the importance of supporting non-military initiatives, such as rehabilitation and livelihood programs for those affected by conflict. He encouraged continued trust and cooperation between security forces and civilians to consolidate the progress made so far.
