Senior local government leaders across Abia State are scheduled to hold a high-level strategy session aimed at reinforcing cooperation with the state administration and improving grassroots political coordination ahead of the next election cycle.
The forum will bring together council heads from all 17 local government areas to assess current reforms at the local level and design fresh approaches for community-based governance. Discussions are expected to center on strengthening administrative unity, service delivery, and citizen engagement across rural and urban communities.
Officials coordinating the meeting say the gathering will also review the progress made under the present government’s restructuring of local councils, with participants sharing field reports and policy feedback from their various areas.
Organizers noted that the session will address rising political tensions and what they describe as attempts by rival groups to weaken ongoing institutional changes within the council system. Leaders are expected to propose measures to protect reform policies and maintain operational stability.
At the end of the meeting, a joint statement is anticipated, outlining shared positions, future action plans, and a renewed pledge by council authorities to continue working closely with the state government to advance development projects at the grassroots level.
