There was excitement among government employees in Abia State on Monday as the administration of Governor Alex Otti commenced the disbursement of long-pending leave allowances to civil servants.
Workers at the Government House in Umuahia welcomed the development, saying the payment reflects a renewed commitment to staff welfare and financial responsibility. Several employees described the move as long overdue and said it would ease personal financial pressures while boosting morale across ministries and agencies.
Officials within the state workforce noted that the allowance settlement signals a shift toward more regular fulfillment of obligations to workers. They added that timely payment of entitlements is expected to improve productivity and trust between the government and its workforce.
The state government reaffirmed its pledge to continue addressing outstanding staff benefits and strengthening public service conditions.
