Billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu has called on African leaders to strengthen collaboration with private enterprises to revitalize agriculture and boost rural economies across the continent. Speaking at an international agricultural forum in Rome, he stressed that joint efforts are essential for increasing food production and creating economic opportunities.

Elumelu highlighted the need for improved electricity access, innovative financing, and business education to make farming more rewarding and attractive, particularly for Africa’s youth. He said these measures are vital for unlocking the sector’s potential and generating jobs.

He also emphasized the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises with easier access to credit and reduced regulatory hurdles, noting that this would strengthen rural value chains and empower local entrepreneurs.

As the leader of Heirs Holdings and chairman of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, he underscored that public-private collaboration is key to transforming agriculture into a modern, competitive industry that enhances food security and improves livelihoods across Africa.
