Residents of rural communities in Zamfara State are facing renewed fear after armed groups reportedly imposed heavy financial demands on several villages following a fresh wave of attacks.
According to local accounts, the gunmen stormed affected areas, enforcing a ₦10 million levy on households and community leaders. During the latest incident, one person was reportedly shot, while others fled into nearby towns for safety as panic spread.
Community members say the attackers warned that failure to meet payment demands could lead to further violence, destruction of property, and more raids. Farming and trading activities in the affected settlements have slowed as families avoid traveling or working in distant fields.
Local voices are calling for stronger security presence and faster emergency response, saying villagers are increasingly vulnerable and unable to defend themselves against repeated threats.
