A 21-year-old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly killing his employer and assaulting the employer’s wife in Onitsha.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of February 15, 2026. According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect allegedly attacked his master, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, striking him on the head with a pestle, which led to his death. He also allegedly assaulted the deceased’s wife, Mrs. Ogechukwu Nwite, during the attack.

Police operatives recovered the pestle said to have been used in the assault at the scene of the crime.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect may have been reacting to repeated reprimands from his employer over alleged misconduct, including stealing money from the shop, keeping late nights, and involvement in drug use.

Mrs. Nwite was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and reportedly responding well.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation. Police authorities assured the public that justice will be pursued in accordance with the law.
