Nigerian singer Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, professionally known as Simi, has publicly addressed the prevalence of sexual assault and the societal tendency to silence survivors.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the 37-year-old artist revealed that sexual violence is far more widespread than many acknowledge. “Almost every woman I know personally has been sexually assaulted at some point in their lives,” she wrote.

Simi stressed that fear of false accusations should never be used to dismiss or silence victims. While acknowledging that anyone who lies about assault should face consequences, she emphasized that this should not overshadow the broader reality of abuse.

“You can’t think it’s okay to shut people up from speaking up about assault because some people lie,” she wrote. She also challenged men to reflect on their own circles: “How many of your male friends have they lied against? How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as vibes?”

The singer highlighted the constant fear many women live with, noting that public spaces are often unsafe and that even homes do not always guarantee safety. “Ask your sisters. Ask your female friends and your girlfriends. Ask your wives. We’re not all crazy. STOP RAPING WOMEN!!” she urged.

Simi also called on men to hold one another accountable, criticizing those who excuse harmful behaviour among friends. “Many of you create safe spaces for your friends’ perverted and wicked behaviour because ‘I’m not like that’,” she wrote.

She shared personal precautions she takes to protect herself and her daughter, including carrying pepper spray, underscoring the reality women face daily.

Addressing men who feel targeted by discussions of rape, Simi wrote: “If you’re not a rapist and people calling out rapists bother you, you need to sit and have a conversation with yourself. Because why are you triggered if you’re not guilty???”

This is not the first time Simi has used her platform to advocate for women’s rights and social issues. Through her music, interviews, and social media, she has consistently addressed gender inequality, societal pressures, and the challenges women face.

Her song Woman celebrates the resilience and strength of women while challenging traditional roles and demanding greater recognition for women’s contributions.

Simi is also known for her music career and family life. She is married to fellow singer Adekunle Gold (Adekunle Kosoko), with whom she has collaborated on several songs since publicly confirming their relationship in 2018.

Both artists are open about their marriage, occasionally sharing personal moments with fans while maintaining active music careers.
