Kwara United Football Club has condemned the chaos that erupted after its Nigeria Premier Football League match against Rivers United, calling the post-game disorder “deeply troubling” and contrary to the spirit of the sport.
The weekend game at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl in Ilorin ended in a 1‑1 draw, but celebrations were marred when some supporters reacted angrily to events in the final moments of the match.
Eyewitnesses reported fans invading the pitch and confronting match officials and visiting team personnel, forcing stewards to intervene and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
In an official statement, Kwara United’s management criticised the behaviour of the unruly fans and stressed that violence and intimidation have no place in football. The club reaffirmed its commitment to fair play and respect for officials, opponents, and supporters alike.
