Thirty‑five young Nigerians from Kebbi State have safely touched down in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where they will embark on a long‑term medical degree programme. The students, all beneficiaries of a scholarship backed by the state government, arrived ready to begin classes at a medical college after being warmly welcomed by officials and settled into prepared accommodation.
State representatives are on the ground in the Ethiopian capital to help the students with orientation, paperwork, and early academic arrangements so they can start lectures without delay.
The scholarship initiative is part of Kebbi’s broader effort to strengthen human capital in the health sector by investing in quality education and international exposure for its youth, particularly in essential fields like medicine where trained professionals are urgently needed.
Governor Nasir Idris had earlier urged the students to make the most of this rare opportunity, reminding them that they are ambassadors for both the state and their country and that their success could have lasting benefits for healthcare delivery back home.
The first phase of their academic journey will focus on orientation and settling into university life before full‑time medical instruction begins.
