Johannesburg – South African police have deployed divers to assist in the search for a firearm linked to a shooting at the residence of the son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.
The incident occurred on Thursday at a Hyde Park property north of Johannesburg, where a gardener was shot and remains in critical condition in hospital.
The former president’s son, along with another man, has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Both suspects are facing charges of attempted murder.
Police are now expanding their investigation to locate the missing weapon allegedly used during the attack. Divers are expected to search the premises, including the property’s swimming pool, as part of efforts to recover the firearm, authorities said.
“This investigation is being widened to ensure all evidence is secured and accounted for,” an SABC spokesperson added.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the high-profile status of the family involved.
