Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged the newly inaugurated board of the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) to prioritise the growth of grassroots and school sports, as well as other sporting initiatives across the state.
The board is chaired by Enitan Oshodi, former Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development and current President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ITTF Africa). Olaposi Agunbiade serves as Executive Secretary/CEO, while other members include Olabode Agoro, Adeniyi Adekoya, Gbolahan Onibuje, Jubril Gawat, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Olayemi Sarumi, Lekan Fatodu, Moshood Ajide, and Engr. Ibrahim Adigun, Chairman of the Chairmen of LGs/LCDAs.
At the inauguration held at Lagos House, Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged the board to leverage their expertise, networks, and professional experience to strengthen sports institutions and facilities in the state.
“The mandate is straightforward, support sports funding and build strong institutions for today and future generations. I urge you to invest in grassroots and school sports and improve facilities across all divisions. This body can also engage the private sector to attract additional support,” he said.
Chairman Oshodi highlighted the board’s mission to secure funding for sports infrastructure and development. “The Lagos State Government invests heavily in sports, but in a megacity of over 20 million people, resources are never enough. Facilities must support athletes, and private sector participation is crucial. Our short-term goal is success, but our long-term vision is sustainable sports development in Lagos,” he stated.
The LSSTF board is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing Lagos’ sports ecosystem and fostering opportunities for young athletes across the state.
