The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged a mistake in documentation from a recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council election, describing it as a clerical oversight rather than deliberate manipulation.
The commission clarified that the discrepancy was discovered during routine checks and does not reflect the actual outcome of the election. It assured the public that corrective steps have been taken to address the issue and maintain the credibility of the process.
Meanwhile, a presiding officer linked to the affected polling unit has distanced himself from reports suggesting that results were altered. He insisted that he did not authorize or carry out any changes, rejecting claims circulating about his involvement.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and electoral integrity, noting that all necessary reviews are ongoing to prevent similar errors in future exercises.
