Thousands of residents in parts of Ekiti State are receiving emergency support following a violent rainstorm that struck in mid‑February, destroying homes and leaving many families without shelter. The assistance was coordinated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) working alongside the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District.

Relief supplies distributed to affected communities included food and essential items aimed at easing hardship while longer‑term rebuilding plans are developed. The areas covered included Irepodun, Ado, Efon, and Ijero local government regions, where hundreds of buildings were damaged or destroyed by strong winds and heavy rain.

In remarks during the distribution, Bamidele expressed sympathy for those impacted and described the intervention as a necessary step to provide temporary support. He noted that the materials are meant to help victims cope as they work toward repairing their homes.

Representatives of NEMA also highlighted the importance of preparedness and urged residents to take precautions against future extreme weather events. Traditional leaders in the district praised the relief effort, emphasizing that the prompt response has offered hope and stability to families still recovering from the destruction.
