Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan has urged Nigerian security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into a violent incident targeting prominent political figures in Edo State this week.

In a statement on Thursday, the senator described the reported shooting and destruction of property involving former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex‑APC national chairman John Odigie‑Oyegun as deeply troubling. She warned that such episodes threaten the stability of Nigeria’s democratic process if left unaddressed.

Akpoti‑Uduaghan stressed that political competition must remain peaceful and inclusive, saying that intimidation or attacks on political actors undermine constitutional rights and the democratic space. She called on authorities to ensure those responsible are swiftly identified and brought to justice.

The reported violence occurred during political activities in Benin City and has drawn increased public scrutiny amid fears about rising political tensions ahead of future elections.
