Nigeria’s National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an official investigation into allegations of possible child abuse linked to a daycare in Lagos, following the resurfacing of old social media posts by popular singer Simisola Kosoko, known professionally as Simi.
The controversy grew after the singer’s recent statements condemning sexual violence, when critics brought up tweets from 2012 and 2013 that referenced interactions with children at her mother’s daycare. Some social media users interpreted the language in these posts as inappropriate, sparking widespread debate and calls for formal scrutiny.
In response, NAPTIP’s Director‑General instructed operatives to launch a full-scale inquiry, focusing on any credible reports of child misconduct in the daycare. The agency emphasised that child safety remains its top priority and invited anyone with direct information to report it confidentially.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency also referred the matter to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation, noting that legal action would depend on verified testimonies.
Simi has denied that her old posts were inappropriate, stating they reflected everyday moments while helping at her mother’s daycare and were not written with harmful intent.
