Ghana Calls for Expanded Business Links and Economic Collaboration With Nigeria

Ghana’s top diplomatic representative in Nigeria has urged both countries to build deeper commercial and investment partnerships, emphasising the benefits of closer economic cooperation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

At a reception in Lagos marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary, Mrs Barbara Entee, Ghana’s Minister Counsellor and Head of Chancery in Nigeria, highlighted the opportunity for increased trade and investment between the two West African neighbours. She described the move as key to boosting prosperity, creating jobs, and accelerating industrial growth on both sides of the border.

“We see this next chapter as one defined by stronger economic exchange, cooperation, and investment,” Entee said at the event in Ikeja, which drew diplomats from several countries along with officials from business and cultural sectors.

The envoy encouraged Ghanaian and Nigerian businesses to explore collaboration in manufacturing, agriculture, technology, energy, education, and the creative industries — sectors she said are ripe for growth and cross‑border partnerships. A mini‑exhibition of Ghanaian products at the celebration aimed to connect entrepreneurs and promote bilateral commerce.

Entee also stressed that the historical and cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria provide a strong foundation for economic cooperation, with longstanding connections between people, trade networks, and regional organisations like the Economic Community of West African States.

Lagos State government officials also reaffirmed their interest in boosting trade and investment ties with Ghana, noting the important role Ghanaian businesses and professionals play in Nigeria’s commercial landscape.

The anniversary event, themed “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope,” not only reflected on Ghana’s journey since independence, but also served as a platform to promote stronger economic engagement with Nigeria and the wider West African region.
