Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, the D’Tigress, saw their impressive run of eight straight competitive victories come to an end after a 77–60 loss to South Korea in their second game of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournament in Villeurbanne, France.
The defeat was the first competitive setback for the Nigerian side since their loss at the 2024 Paris Olympics, snapping the momentum they had built with strong results, including a big win in their tournament opener against Colombia.
South Korea controlled much of the match, taking an early lead and maintaining pressure throughout. While the D’Tigress kept the game close in the first half, Korea pulled away in the third and fourth quarters to secure a convincing victory.
Despite this loss, Nigeria had already qualified for the World Cup based on their previous achievements and will look to bounce back as the qualifiers continue.
