The Member representing Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah, has extended warm birthday felicitations to distinguished medical scholar and renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, Prof. Kelechi E. Okonta, describing him as a shining example of excellence in medicine, academia and public service.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday, Hon. Ogah praised Prof. Okonta for his outstanding contributions to the medical profession and his unwavering commitment to the development of healthcare and education in Nigeria.
Prof. Kelechi E. Okonta is a Professor and Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, widely respected for his expertise and dedication to advancing surgical practice and training in Nigeria. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of UniPort Press Limited and also represents the Senate on the Board of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt.
Hon. Ogah noted that Prof. Okonta’s impressive record of service in both academic and medical institutions has made him a role model to young professionals across the country. He highlighted that the celebrant previously served as the Head of the Department of Surgery at both the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and the University of Port Harcourt.
The lawmaker also recalled Prof. Okonta’s impactful tenure as Director of the Youth Friendly Centre at the University of Port Harcourt, where he championed initiatives aimed at improving youth health awareness and access to medical services.
He further commended the medical expert for his earlier service as Head of Clinical Services at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he contributed significantly to strengthening healthcare delivery and medical administration.
Hon. Ogah described Prof. Okonta’s life as a testament to dedication, hard work and service to humanity, adding that his achievements in medicine and academia continue to inspire many within and outside the health sector.
He prayed for continued good health, wisdom and greater accomplishments for the celebrated surgeon as he marks another year of impactful living.
