The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Abuja should not be labeled as a hub for banditry, emphasizing that crime exists in every part of the world, including highly developed nations. He argued that no society is entirely free from security challenges, urging the public to adopt a more measured view of incidents within the capital.
Wike maintained that while isolated criminal activities may occur, they should not be exaggerated or misrepresented as organized bandit operations within Abuja. According to him, the narrative portraying the city as unsafe is misleading and does not reflect the broader reality on the ground.
The minister highlighted ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain law and order across the Federal Capital Territory. He noted that authorities remain vigilant and committed to tackling all forms of crime, ensuring residents and visitors continue to feel secure.
His remarks come amid growing public discussions about safety in the nation’s capital, with some residents expressing concerns over recent incidents. However, Wike reassured citizens that the government remains proactive and focused on sustaining peace and stability in Abuja.
