Lagos’ sports scene is buzzing as the third edition of The Athletics School Games (TASG) kicks off at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, running from March 20 to 21. The event has drawn over 20 schools from across the state, where pupils aged 4–16 will compete in track races, field activities, and other athletics challenges over two exciting days.

Organised as a school-only competition registered with World Athletics, TASG was created to spot and develop young sporting talent. This year’s format includes separate programmes for primary and secondary schools, which organisers say will make scheduling more efficient and give competitors more rest between events.

Officials have also improved technical support, timing systems, and event management to raise the standard of competition. Winners won’t just go home with medals — the festival also celebrates fair play through the Kashopefoluwa Sportsmanship Award, recognising teams and athletes who show strong character on and off the field.

Despite ongoing challenges with funding and facilities — including organisers covering much of the costs themselves — TASG’s organisers remain committed to providing a top‑class experience for participants and a platform where future Nigerian sports stars can emerge.
