A respected sports journalist is urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to extend the contract of Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle, saying the team has shown enough promise to compete for the next Africa Cup of Nations title. The commentator highlighted how Nigeria’s style of play and improved organisation under Chelle impressed many during the last tournament.

Though the Super Eagles fell short of lifting the trophy, their brand of football and discipline both on and off the pitch attracted widespread praise. The analyst pointed out that sometimes factors like luck play a role in deciding tournament outcomes, but that the groundwork laid by the coach should be rewarded with continued leadership.

It was also noted that frequent changes in the national team’s coaching setup in recent qualifying cycles have hurt continuity and results, suggesting that stability at the technical helm could help Nigeria build on its progress. According to the reporter, keeping Chelle in charge could allow the squad to develop further and increase its chances of clinching major honours in future competitions.

Looking ahead to the next two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments scheduled between 2026 and 2028, the commentator expressed confidence that, with solid preparation and favourable circumstances, Nigeria could go all the way. At the same time, there is still discussion around improving support for the coach and his staff to help them achieve those goals.
