Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has attributed the recent exodus of senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ongoing leadership struggles within the party. She highlighted that the number of PDP senators dropped from 37 in late 2023 to just six, as many members left due to internal disputes.
Speaking at an event in Abuja to launch a committee for the party’s national convention, Akpoti‑Uduaghan said the defections weakened the party’s influence in the Senate and frustrated supporters. She noted that many former colleagues cited the leadership crisis as their reason for joining other political parties.
Despite these challenges, the senator expressed optimism that the upcoming convention could foster unity. She urged those who left the PDP to reconsider and return, emphasizing that the situation outside the party is “not greener on the other side.”
Party leaders described the inauguration of the convention committee as a critical step toward rebuilding and moving past divisions, with a focus on preparing for future elections.
