The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its zoning arrangement for national elective positions and urged members to remain united as preparations intensify for the party’s upcoming national convention.

At its 107th meeting held in Abuja on Monday, the party’s highest decision-making body between conventions reviewed key issues affecting its internal structure and future electoral prospects. NEC expressed confidence in the PDP’s readiness to reposition itself as a credible alternative for governance.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, signed by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Secretary Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, NEC ratified reports from the recently concluded ward, local government, state and zonal congresses across the country. The committee commended party leaders, stakeholders and members for conducting largely peaceful, transparent and credible exercises.

On membership mobilisation, NEC assessed the ongoing electronic registration process and praised the progress made so far. It reiterated its commitment to developing a comprehensive, technology-driven membership database and encouraged members nationwide to participate actively.

A major highlight of the meeting was the endorsement of the zoning formula for national elective offices. NEC said the arrangement, based on equity, fairness, inclusiveness and national balance, would guide the national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026.

The committee also confirmed that the sale of nomination forms had begun, advising aspirants to comply strictly with approved guidelines and timelines. It directed all relevant organs to ensure proper coordination for a credible and transparent convention themed “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal.”

Reaffirming party supremacy, NEC urged members to remain disciplined and committed to the collective interest of the PDP.

In his remarks, Abdulrahman Mohammed described the meeting as taking place at a critical moment for the party, following the successful congresses nationwide. He called on members to remain united and avoid divisions.

“There is no victor and no vanquished. What we have is a shared responsibility to rebuild and reposition our party,” he said, urging stakeholders to put party interests above personal ambitions.

He also commended the National Convention Planning Committee, led by former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, for its efforts.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stressed the need for genuine reconciliation and loyalty among members. He warned against opportunistic politics and urged party faithful to demonstrate commitment beyond the pursuit of elective positions.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, also described the period as crucial for the PDP, calling for wisdom, restraint and compromise. He urged members to embrace the zoning arrangement in the spirit of fairness and unity.

NEC concluded by expressing confidence in the party’s renewed strength and unity, assuring Nigerians of its readiness to provide purposeful leadership and direction.
