The AmaXhosa Royal Family has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the sovereignty of the Eastern Cape and the integrity of AmaXhosa territory.
This comes as residents of Buffalo City staged a protest against what they describe as the unauthorised coronation of a Nigerian Igbo king in KuGompo. The demonstration follows the circulation of videos on social media showing the coronation ceremony earlier this month, which sparked widespread outrage.
Speaking during the march, Inkosi Xhanti Bambilizwe Sigcawu of the AmaXhosa Royal House said the royal family is taking a firm stand on the matter and is calling for legal action.
He stressed that the incident is unacceptable and warned against any actions that could undermine the authority of the AmaXhosa people. Sigcawu clarified that the stance is not targeted at any specific nationality but is a broader call to respect the sovereignty of the land.
“We cannot allow our sovereignty to be undermined by anyone. This is the territory of Obakosa, and it must be respected by all,” he said.
