JOS, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday arrived in Jos, the Plateau State capital, to commiserate with residents following recent attacks that claimed more than 28 lives.
The President’s aircraft touched down at Yakubu Gowon Airport at about 5:00 p.m., where he was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other top government and security officials.
Among those present were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; and former Plateau State governors, Senators Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong. Also in attendance were Senator Nora Daduut, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to South Korea, and former governor Joshua Dariye.
Security chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, were also on ground to receive the President.
Tinubu’s visit follows renewed violence in parts of Plateau State, a region long troubled by communal clashes and security challenges. The latest attacks have sparked nationwide concern and renewed calls for decisive federal intervention.
During the visit, the President is expected to meet with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other key stakeholders to discuss measures aimed at ending the violence and restoring lasting peace.
The visit is also intended to reassure residents of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting local authorities in addressing the crisis. Security has been intensified across Jos and surrounding areas ahead of the President’s engagements.
Discussions are expected to focus on immediate security responses, humanitarian support for affected families, and long-term strategies to prevent further attacks.
