The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has raised concerns about what it describes as systematic targeting of its members across Nigeria. The group claims that several supporters have been detained or intimidated, even though MASSOB insists it operates through peaceful advocacy.
In a recent statement, the organisation said the alleged actions by authorities are creating fear among its followers and undermining their ability to participate in civic and social activities. MASSOB is calling for a review of these practices to ensure the protection of its members’ rights.
The group also appealed to international human rights organisations to monitor the situation, warning that continued harassment could escalate tensions in the southeastern region. MASSOB emphasized that its movement remains committed to non-violent methods of promoting its cause.
With nearly thirty years of advocacy behind it, MASSOB says the ongoing difficulties for its members highlight the challenges faced by groups seeking self-determination in Nigeria.
