Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has voiced deep concern over the wave of violent attacks across several parts of Nigeria, describing the situation as increasingly alarming and demanding swift government intervention.
In a recent statement, Obi lamented that fresh incidents of killings and abductions have continued to occur in multiple states, despite earlier assurances from the federal government that such tragedies would be brought under control. He pointed to reports of deadly assaults in places like Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Zamfara, and Borno, where communities have suffered loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass displacement.
The former Anambra State governor questioned the effectiveness of current security measures, noting that attacks have persisted even shortly after official promises of improved safety. He argued that the repeated incidents reflect a serious gap in leadership and accountability, with citizens bearing the consequences.
Obi stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary duty of any government, warning that the continued violence signals a worsening national emergency. According to him, the frequency and spread of these attacks suggest that perpetrators are becoming more emboldened.
He called for immediate and decisive steps to address the crisis, urging authorities to move beyond assurances and implement practical strategies to restore peace and security across the country.
