The Bauchi State Government has commenced the local production of exercise books and chalks for schools as part of efforts to improve learning outcomes across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Muhammed Rimin-Zayam, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the production site at the Education Resource Centre (ERC) in Bauchi on Friday. He explained that the initiative, backed by Governor Bala Mohammed, was designed to reduce reliance on external contractors and guarantee the supply of quality learning materials.
According to him, producing the materials locally is a milestone achievement that will eliminate substandard supplies from unqualified contractors. He noted that, in addition to exercise books and chalks, the state was also rebranding existing textbooks to make them appear new and durable.
Rimin-Zayam further described the ERC project as evidence that the education sector in Bauchi is making progress. He added that the centre was established to provide schools with essential locally made materials and hinted that, in the future, the state may consider exporting chalk for revenue generation.
The Director of the ERC, Kabiru Ahmed, applauded the workers’ dedication, saying their commitment had boosted production levels and improved delivery of educational resources. Meanwhile, on September 25, 2025, the Young Leaders Network, in partnership with the Ministries of Education, Budget, and Economic Planning, held a review meeting on the state’s second-quarter education budget performance under the Malala Fund-supported Strengthening Advocacy for Girls Education Project.
