Meta has announced plans to begin testing paid subscription options across its major social media platforms — Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp — as it explores new revenue streams beyond advertising.

Under the plan, users will still be able to access the platforms for free, but those who opt for a subscription will enjoy additional features and enhanced tools designed to improve their experience. Each app is expected to offer its own set of premium options, tailored to how users interact on the platform.

The company said the new subscriptions will focus on providing greater control, exclusive features and improved functionality, while ensuring that core services remain available to all users at no cost.

Meta also indicated that artificial intelligence tools may play a role in the premium offerings, giving paying users access to more advanced capabilities than those on free accounts.

Details on pricing and the full list of features have not yet been disclosed, as the company plans to use feedback from initial testing to refine the subscription models before a wider rollout.
