Umuahia, Nigeria – Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has emphasized that his tenure as a lawmaker was marked by a firm commitment to the welfare of the people, not personal gain.
Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, Orji stated, “In my days as a legislator, I prioritized citizens over personal interest. I saw my role not just as a political appointment but as a sacred responsibility to serve the people who entrusted me with their mandate.”
The former lawmaker, who represented Umuahia Central State Constituency and later became Speaker of the 7th Abia Assembly, noted that every decision he took in office was guided by the desire to uplift lives, promote development, and defend the rights of ordinary citizens.
He recalled sponsoring impactful bills, facilitating youth empowerment programs, and pushing for infrastructural projects that directly touched the lives of his constituents.
Orji also urged current political office holders across the country to embrace people-oriented leadership, stressing that posterity will always reward genuine service. “It is easy to chase personal gains, but true fulfillment comes when you serve selflessly. That was the principle that guided me,” he added.
His remarks have sparked widespread praise among Abians, many of whom described his time in the Assembly as one of the most responsive and transparent periods in recent legislative history.
