Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security as a cornerstone of development, officially launching the Abia State Security Trust Fund on Thursday, July 10, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia. The initiative raised over N3.4 billion in donations from individuals, corporate bodies, and stakeholders to enhance the state’s security architecture.

Governor Otti urged Abians and residents to take an active role in safeguarding their communities by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities. He emphasized that the Trust Fund is a strategic component of his broader plan to prevent crime, as provided for under the Abia State Security Trust Fund Law, 2024.

“Insecurity leads to economic hardship, displaces families, and disrupts development,” Otti stated. “We must all do our part in creating a safe environment.” He assured the public that every kobo donated would be transparently and prudently utilized, citing the successes of Operation Crush and other interventions as evidence of his administration’s results-driven approach.

Lawmakers, ministers, and other prominent Nigerians at the event commended the initiative. Hon. Alex Ikwuecheghe (Aba North/South), Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and ex-Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uche Ogah, all echoed the importance of collective responsibility in addressing security challenges. They praised Governor Otti’s developmental strides and called on others to support the Trust Fund.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Vice Chairman Chief Johnson Chukwu described the Trust Fund as a public-private partnership aimed at equipping security agencies with essential logistics, surveillance tools, and communication infrastructure. “This initiative ensures real-time, effective responses to threats,” he said, commending the governor for his vision and leadership.

Secretary of the Fund and SSA to the Governor on Legal Matters, Bar. Mrs. Nkolika Cleopatra Ubani, urged stakeholders to sustain their support for the Fund’s crime-prevention focus, while the event chairman, Ide John Udeagbala, emphasized that security is everyone’s duty and called for continued donations and public cooperation.

High-profile donors at the event included representatives of Chief Arthur Eze, Deji Adeleke, Innoson Motors, Geometric Power, and numerous banks and contractors, alongside the Chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Mbah, all of whom pledged their support for the governor’s proactive security agenda.

The event drew an impressive gathering of business leaders, professionals, traditional rulers, and government functionaries who lauded Governor Otti’s decisive actions and pledged ongoing commitment to securing peace and prosperity in Abia State.
