Presidency Dismisses Atiku-Obi Alliance as No Threat to Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

The Presidency has confidently declared that neither former Vice President Atiku Abubakar nor Labour Party’s Peter Obi poses a real challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027. Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, stated this during an interview on Arise Television, emphasizing that President Tinubu’s record of achievements will serve as a strong foundation for his second-term bid.

“They are free to form whatever alliances they want, but from the APC’s perspective, we don’t consider them a threat,” Onanuga asserted. “Even if Atiku and Obi combine forces, they still wouldn’t be able to defeat the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. It’s simply not possible.”

He criticized what he called premature political maneuvering, saying that talks of opposition coalitions were too early and misplaced. According to him, Tinubu supports democratic freedoms and has no involvement in the internal issues facing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party recently linked to Atiku and Obi.

Commenting on Atiku’s political history, Onanuga said the former Vice President has consistently failed to gain traction despite multiple attempts at the presidency. He also argued that using Peter Obi as a running mate would not automatically guarantee broader support, noting regional dynamics and past election results.

Onanuga concluded by highlighting the benefits the northern regions have received under Tinubu’s administration, especially in appointments. He stressed that the president’s goodwill in the North would play a crucial role in the next election, and that current public criticisms do not reflect the actual impact of Tinubu’s governance on citizens.
