The Kano State Government has awarded contracts worth over N40.8 billion for the construction of 17 township roads across various Local Government Areas within the Kano metropolis. The affected LGAs include Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, during a guided tour of ongoing and completed road projects with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya. Waiya emphasized that the road projects align with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s core campaign promise to improve road infrastructure across the state.
Among the projects are the Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and the Dansudau Bypass, awarded at N1.896 billion; the Jafar-Madobi road and underpass at N1.323 billion; Sabo Bakin Zuwo and Muhammad Buhari Road rehabilitations at N2.014 billion and N4.108 billion, respectively; as well as the Rijiyar Lemo Road (N494.367 million), Kwanar Durba–Fammar-Kunau Kure Road erosion control (N205.983 million), and Airport Road Rehabilitation (N5.956 billion).
Waiya also revealed that the state is investing N13.3 billion in the construction of the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA and N6.9 billion for the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan Dutse roads in Albasu LGA. He noted that these roads were prioritized for their economic and social significance, as they are expected to ease transportation, promote trade, and boost local economies by improving access to markets and reducing traffic bottlenecks.
In response, NUJ President Yahaya commended Governor Yusuf for his developmental strides, stating that the projects would greatly enhance Kano’s socioeconomic landscape. He also lauded the government’s substantial funding of the education sector, recognizing it as a vital investment in the state’s future.
