Abuja is set to welcome the highly anticipated Crown Elite Basketball All-Star Weekend from August 22 to 24, showcasing premier basketball talent from across West Africa. The event, taking place at the Mo Arena Sports Hall, will feature top clubs including Nigeria University Games champions Nile University and the renowned Gboko City Chiefs. This marks Crown Elite Sports’ inaugural edition in Nigeria’s capital after over a decade of hosting basketball events across the region.
President and founder of Crown Elite Sports, Hanson Oguche, described the Abuja edition as a significant milestone. “We are thrilled to bring the Crown Elite All-Star event to Abuja. This edition not only celebrates the spirit of basketball but also underscores the vital link between sports and education,” he stated.
The weekend kicks off on August 22 with exhibition matches featuring six clubs, such as Mo Heat, Royal Aces, and Air Warriors, with support from Hotcoal Basketball Foundation. On August 23, the headline All-Star match will pit the Sahel Conference Co-Ed Select Team—led by Nile University’s Coach Hamza Abubakar—against the Oceanic Conference squad, coached by 2024 BAL Coach of the Year Ogoh Odaudu. A veterans’ game between ABU Kings Alumni and a Rest of World team will also be played.
The grand finale on August 24 will feature an exclusive VIP Awards Presentation honouring outstanding players, coaches, officials, and stakeholders in Nigerian basketball. Fans can also look forward to crowd-pleasers like slam dunk and three-point contests. Crown Elite Sports, founded by former international star Oguche, continues to champion youth and professional athlete development through sports and education initiatives.
