Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has raised concerns over the sluggish performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the ongoing by-election in the Edo Central Senatorial District.

Okpebholo made the observation on Saturday after casting his vote at Ward 2, Polling Unit 1, located at Udomi Primary School in Esan Central Local Government Area. Speaking with journalists, he described the voting process as peaceful but expressed frustration over the inefficiency of the BVAS machines deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“I just voted, and you can see the frustration. The BVAS is too slow, and accreditation takes too long. INEC really needs to address this issue,” he said.

Despite the technical hiccups, the governor commended INEC for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the election across the district. He encouraged eligible voters to come out in large numbers, participate in the process, and protect their votes.

The by-election was necessitated by the vacancy in the senatorial seat following Okpebholo’s recent swearing-in as the Governor of Edo State.
