The Ondo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is inclusive and accessible to all eligible citizens. The appeal was made on Saturday through a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media, Mr. Eniola Olurotimi, who stressed the importance of leaving no Nigerian behind in the democratic process.
INEC has scheduled the nationwide CVR to take place between August 18 and 30, 2025. As part of its preparations, the commission will commence online registration on August 18, while physical registration at designated centres is expected to begin on August 25. The ADC is urging that special attention be given to ensuring participation from underrepresented groups, particularly those in correctional facilities.
The ADC state chairman, Barrister Wole Ademoyegun, emphasized that prisoners who meet the legal requirements should not be excluded from registering to vote. He insisted that inmates, as Nigerian citizens, retain their constitutional rights and must be given the opportunity to exercise them during elections. “Eligible prisoners deserve the right to vote,” Ademoyegun stated, calling on INEC to make adequate provisions for such individuals.
In addition, Ademoyegun encouraged all ADC members who have yet to register to take full advantage of the CVR period. He highlighted the ease and accessibility of the online registration process starting August 18 and advised members to mobilize their communities ahead of the physical registration dates. According to him, broad participation in the exercise is crucial for strengthening the party’s presence.
The ADC chairman concluded by underlining the urgency for political change in Nigeria, citing the current hardship being experienced under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He declared that the time had come for the ADC to lead a national transformation, starting with active voter engagement. “Nigeria needs a better leader to end the suffering of its people,” he said.
