Tensions Rise as Ganye By-Election Records Massive Turnout, PDP and APC Trade Vote-Buying Allegations

The Adamawa State by-election for the Ganye State Constituency witnessed impressive voter turnout on Saturday, with polling stations in and around the local government headquarters experiencing heavy activity. Voting commenced as early as 8:15 a.m., with long queues of voters—particularly elderly citizens—eager to cast their ballots.

The atmosphere during the election was largely peaceful, thanks to the presence of military personnel who took control of major streets within the local government area to regulate vehicular movement and maintain order throughout the voting exercise.

Speaking after casting his vote, the Chairman of Ganye Local Government, Farouk Mohammed, voiced strong confidence in the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the All Progressives Congress (APC) resorted to vote buying due to what he described as the party’s poor performance in governance. He claimed the APC lacked meaningful campaign messages and resorted instead to financial inducement of voters.

Responding to these allegations, the APC’s Organising Secretary in Adamawa State, Mustapha Ribadu, dismissed the claims and countered with accusations of his own, alleging that the PDP was equally involved in vote buying. Ribadu, however, maintained optimism that the APC would emerge victorious in the poll.
