The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has placed an indefinite ban on the popular ‘signing off’ celebrations traditionally held by final-year students after their examinations. This decision, announced in a press release signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, takes immediate effect.

According to Dr. Okeke, the directive was prompted by repeated incidents of violence, chaos, and disruption caused by such celebrations, which have increasingly threatened the university’s normal operations and the safety of the campus environment.

The statement emphasized that all forms of orchestration related to final examinations are now prohibited within the university premises. It warned that any student found engaging in such activities could face serious disciplinary actions, including suspension. Additionally, outsiders who attempt to participate or support these events on campus risk arrest and prosecution for disorderly conduct.

UNIZIK management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, peaceful academic environment and urged students to remain focused on their studies. The administration also encouraged the university community to report any misconduct or safety threats to the relevant authorities.
