An Equatorial Guinea court has sentenced former senior government official, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, to eight years in prison after finding him guilty of embezzlement.

Engonga, once a powerful figure in the country’s political circles, was accused of misappropriating state funds during his tenure in public office. The ruling marks one of the rare high-profile corruption convictions in the oil-rich Central African nation, where cases of graft have long sparked controversy.

Authorities said the conviction underscores government efforts to clamp down on financial misconduct within its ranks.
