Nigerian forward Jerome Akor Adams has been sidelined from the country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa due to injury. The striker picked up a muscle strain in his left thigh during Sevilla’s 3-0 home defeat to Getafe in LaLiga last weekend.

Sevilla confirmed on Wednesday that Adams will also miss their upcoming league game against Girona as he undergoes treatment and recovery. His absence comes as a setback both for his club and the Nigerian national team, who had listed him among the provisional squad for the crucial qualifiers.

The 25-year-old’s invitation marked his first call-up to the Super Eagles, raising hopes of making his international debut. However, the injury has forced him to postpone the opportunity to don the green and white jersey in competitive action.

Adams, who moved to Sevilla from French Ligue 1 side Montpellier in January, has faced repeated fitness challenges since joining the Spanish club. His recurring injury struggles have limited his impact, and this latest setback adds to concerns over his consistency on the pitch.
