RSIEC Presents Certificates of Return to Rivers Council Election Winners

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has presented Certificates of Return to 23 chairmen-elect and 319 councillors-elect who emerged victorious in the August 30, 2025, local government elections.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, emphasized that the certificate symbolized not just electoral success but also a mandate to serve. He described the event as a proud moment for Nigeria’s democracy and urged the newly elected officials to lead with humility, accountability, and transparency.

Odey commended stakeholders such as community leaders, security agencies, civil society organizations, and the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible election. He stressed that the spirit of inclusiveness, not a “winner-takes-all” approach, should guide leadership at the grassroots.

He further encouraged the officials to uphold the electoral code of conduct while advising aggrieved candidates to seek redress through lawful means. Odey also assured that the commission would conduct a post-election review to strengthen future electoral processes.
