The entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of fast-rising comedian and skit maker, Raji Adetola, popularly known as Mr Sanku Comedy, who died in a car crash in Ibadan.
The tragic accident occurred on Monday along the Oyo, Ogbomoso expressway when the vehicle conveying Sanku and a companion veered off the road and plunged into a ditch. He was rushed to a nearby hospital alongside his friend, but he later succumbed to his injuries. The condition of his companion remained uncertain as of press time, though reports indicated he sustained critical injuries.
Sanku, who gained popularity in 2021 with his humorous and relatable skits, had built a strong fan base on TikTok and other social platforms. His last video, posted a day before the accident, has since gone viral. In the clip, he prayed not to die before enjoying the fruits of his labour a message that has left fans deeply emotional in the wake of his passing.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and fans. Nollywood actress Funmi Awelewa expressed her shock, recalling how she initially heard Sanku was responding to treatment. “We prayed… God, we prayed. Haa Olorun oba oo,” she lamented in an Instagram post.
Fellow skit makers Ozain Comedy and Jidex also took to social media to honour him. “Rest well, soldier,” Ozain wrote, while Jidex shared a short tribute on TikTok with the caption, “Rest in peace.”
Sanku’s death marks another painful loss for Nigeria’s growing community of online comedians and content creators, many of whom have described him as a creative talent gone too soon.
