Abdulmumin Jibrin, member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, has signaled his intention to part ways with his political mentor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Jibrin, a former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations and a key figure in Kwankwaso’s 2023 presidential campaign, revealed in an interview with DCL Hausa that his next political move could take him in any direction.

“Nothing is impossible. I can remain in NNPP, I can go back to APC, I can join ADC, PDP, or even PRP. I can go wherever I like. When I’m ready, I will make my position known,” Jibrin stated.

The lawmaker’s growing presence at the Presidential Villa has fueled speculation of a likely return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has recently held two consecutive meetings with President Bola Tinubu, a move political observers link to strategic maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections.

Jibrin, who blamed internal conspiracies within APC’s Kano structure for delays in Kwankwaso’s rumored defection, maintained that the NNPP leader has not shut the door on negotiations with the ruling party. “Kwankwaso has not ruled out talks and remains open to joining the APC,” he said on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

However, Kwankwaso, speaking at the NNPP’s National Executive Committee meeting on August 30 in Abuja, dismissed claims of plans to abandon the opposition party.

Jibrin insisted that his decision, whenever it comes, will be based on personal conviction rather than party dictates. “I am old enough to take a stand on what is best for me politically. Even NNPP itself has said it is open to negotiations. I joined Kwankwasiyya as a wealthy person and have contributed to its growth. I have never demanded contracts despite my contributions,” he added.

On his relationship with Kwankwaso, the lawmaker pledged continued respect, even if they part ways politically. “Even if I am not together with Kwankwaso, I will never insult him just as I never insulted Ganduje when we parted ways,” he said.

Jibrin’s remarks mark a major shift in Kano’s political landscape as realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
