The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted comments by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, over President Bola Tinubu’s recent vacation abroad.

President Tinubu left Abuja on Thursday for a 10-day working vacation in Europe as part of his annual leave. Obi, however, raised concerns, saying the president’s frequent trips outside the country create the impression of a leader uncomfortable at home at a time Nigeria faces mounting socio-economic and security challenges.

Reacting in a statement on Saturday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo criticised Obi’s remarks, describing them as “opportunistic” and unnecessary.

Oladejo said, “Obi’s latest comment, questioning the president’s private vacation and linking it to national security, is another example of his compulsive tendency to insert himself into every national conversation, regardless of relevance or accuracy.”

He stressed that President Tinubu remains fully briefed and in constant communication with his security and intelligence teams while on vacation, adding that governance does not stop when a leader takes time to rest.

According to him, Obi’s frequent interventions amount to little more than “sound bites, sermons, and reactionary commentary,” rather than concrete policy proposals.

“No policy, no proposals just perpetual complaints. This is not leadership, this is not patriotism, this is noise,” Oladejo stated.

The APC urged Obi to exercise restraint, avoid undermining national discourse, and stop making statements “crafted for social media applause.”
