Nollywood Actor Ibrahim Chatta Mourns Son

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of the son of popular Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta.

The 54-year-old actor broke the news on Saturday via his Instagram page, where he shared a photograph of the late boy. Chatta, however, did not disclose the cause of death.

Quoting a Qur’anic verse in his post, he wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things. Rest on, Dear son, champ.”

The announcement triggered an outpouring of sympathy from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers across social media.

Chatta’s loss comes just days after veteran actress Peju Ogunmola also lost her only son, Ayomikun, in Ibadan, a development that has further deepened the grief within the Nollywood community.

In June, Chatta had recalled the painful memory of losing his first child, a daughter, many years ago, attributing her death to poverty and lack of access to proper medical care. He revealed that at the time, he could not afford a coffin and was forced to bury her in an old Coca-Cola wooden crate.

The recent tragedies have been described by industry stakeholders as a heavy blow to Nollywood, with many extending prayers and condolences to the bereaved families.
