The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has extended financial support to women petty traders in Umuahia South and Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Areas as part of activities marking the International Day of Charity.

Mrs. Otti personally visited Afor Ibeji and Eketa markets, as well as traders within her immediate neighborhood, where she handed cash support directly to women who rely on daily sales for survival. The gesture was warmly received, with many traders expressing deep gratitude.

Speaking during the outreach, the Governor’s wife said her intervention was targeted at petty traders—the small table and stall owners—who form the backbone of local markets but are often overlooked.

“Today is very special. Upon realizing it is the International Day of Charity, I decided to extend the spirit of charity to our petty traders. They are the lifeblood of our markets and deserve to be remembered and supported,” she said.

She urged the women to be prudent and deliberate in managing their businesses, encouraging them to save, reinvest, and make wise financial decisions that will help their ventures grow sustainably.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ijeoma Godwin, a nursing mother and widow, praised Mrs. Otti’s compassion, recounting how she had prayed for divine help after losing her husband, the family’s breadwinner. With tears of joy, she prayed for God’s blessings upon the Governor and his wife for putting the needs of Abians first.

Mrs. Otti also commended Governor Alex Otti for providing about ₦1 billion in nano grants to small business owners across the state, describing small-scale enterprises as the lifeline of the economy.

She assured that she would continue to support vulnerable groups through initiatives aimed at uplifting families, strengthening small businesses, and driving inclusive development across Abia State.
