The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the death of an unidentified man who was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise a transformer at Borno State University, Maiduguri, on Sunday.

Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim died while tampering with electrical installations within the institution. The body was evacuated to a hospital with the assistance of the Borno State Fire Service.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid warned against acts of sabotage, stressing that vandalism not only endangers perpetrators but also threatens public safety.

The incident comes amid renewed calls by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for tougher penalties against vandals targeting critical national infrastructure, following concerns over rising repeat offences linked to lenient court sentences.
