Former Super Eagles forward, Samson Siasia, has called on head coach Eric Chelle to fully utilise the strengths of key players Ademola Lookman and Tolu Arokodare when Nigeria face South Africa in their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. He emphasised that Lookman’s set-piece ability and Arokodare’s physical presence could be crucial in unlocking South Africa’s defence.
Nigeria revived their slim hopes of reaching the World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda last Saturday. The result boosted their confidence ahead of the must-win encounter against the Bafana Bafana, who have traditionally found Nigeria a difficult opponent.
Arokodare came off the bench to score the decisive goal against Rwanda in the 51st minute, proving his impact as a game-changer. Siasia believes giving him a more prominent role against South Africa could provide the attacking edge Nigeria needs in a high-stakes clash.
The former international further noted that South Africa will come prepared with their own strategy, but stressed that Nigeria must approach the game with discipline and tactical clarity. “Facing Nigeria has never been easy for South Africa, but we must have a clear plan,” he advised.
