Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have dismantled major gunrunning syndicates and arrested 35 suspects during intelligence-led operations across the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, disclosed this in a statement on September 8, 2025. He said troops intercepted two English pistols, four locally fabricated pistols, and a double-barrelled gun during the crackdown on arms traffickers operating through Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.
The key suspects, identified as Innocent Emiyemokumo Deidei (aka Sele Bobo), Godknows Alabor Avor, and Godwin Osik, were arrested in separate operations and handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution.
Lt Col Danjuma added that between August 25 and September 7, troops also intensified anti-oil theft operations, shutting down six illegal refining sites, arresting oil thieves, and recovering over 14,000 litres of stolen products.
In Rivers State, illegal refining sites were destroyed in Degema and Emohua LGAs, with thousands of litres of stolen crude and refined products recovered. Troops also intercepted a Mitsubishi Hilux loaded with stolen AGO, abandoned by its driver who fled into the bush.
In Delta State, soldiers uncovered an illegal refinery at Ifie Community in Warri South LGA, seizing more than 1,000 litres of stolen AGO. Similarly, in Akwa Ibom, troops intercepted a mini bus carrying 750 litres of stolen fuel and dismantled another refining site in Abak LGA.
Danjuma noted that in Bayelsa State, troops sustained aggressive patrols of waterways and hinterlands, effectively denying criminals freedom of action.
